This coffee opens up a lot more when it comes to the peak - around 3 weeks after roasted.

For more than 20 years, Bekele Kachara has been cultivating coffee. He has several farms, and this lovely coffee was grown on his land near Murago village in the Bensa District, Sidama region. Bekele and his wife, Mrs. Abinet Mekonnen, have thirteen children, three who are adopted and four of whom are directly involved in all parts of their family’s coffee production. Besides constructing shaded pre-drying coffee beds on site, he also takes care to differentiate the specific coffee varieties he cultivates —namely indigenous heirloom coffee varieties #74158, #74112, #74110. These trees produce about 70 (60kg) bags of green coffee per year at present.

Bekele fertilizes his coffee farm with compost or agricultural residues, so though not certified organic (the cost for the certification process is prohibitive for small growers), his coffee is grown using organic methods. Bekele owns his farm, but doesn’t own his own washing station. Instead, he hires seasonal and daily laborers to help with selective harvesting, and drying of coffee cherries or transport. Besides his experience as a coffee producer, Bekele is very knowledgeable regarding coffee processing, having worked in independent business as well as cooperative-owned coffee washing stations in Bensa and Bona districts of the Sidama region. He’s working hard to expand his coffee farm business in the areas that can
potentially produce award winning coffee and continues to bring innovation and improvement to his operation.
